Almost Killed by Neighborhood Gangs

What started with a casual walk to the store led to Chris being picked up by neighborhood gangs. When told he was going to just “hang out,” Chris was led into an ambush by getting jumped by ten gang members. In the end they said “Welcome to the family,” and Chris knew this wasn’t going to be the life for him.

THE QUESTION CHRIS asked billionaire mark cuban
After watching an episode of Shark Tank on TV, Chris had the idea of reaching out to Mark via email. The moment he sent the email, Mark responded within 30 minutes. Chris responded, but didn’t hear back for several weeks. Desperate for an answer, Chris threw out the question “Are you “in” or are you “out?” in which Mark replied “I’ll be there.” With no contract in place or formal agreement, Mark flew in his private jet to greet Chris in San Diego and ended up providing him $340,000 to support his mission.

Making a movie during the pandemic to stop hate crimes
With the rise of Asian hate crimes, Chris decided to take action to raise awareness. In 90 days (30 days pre production, 21 days production, and 39 post production) Chris wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the film “Zeus”. The movie focuses on the middleweight champion of the world losing his mother to COVID-19 and ends up challenging an Asian American boxer (Zeus) to punish in the ring. Zeus encounters a neighborhood boxing legend, Coach Green, who decides to take Zeus under his wing and teach him fight tactics through the dangerous streets of Los Angeles.
With most of the world in lockdown, Chris and his crew went out to film on location every day without anyone contracting COVID. From choreographing 90% of the fight scenes to doing his own stunts, the boxing film was completed on time and delivered. To prepare for the role, Chris loss over 20lbs, and trained rigorously with professional fighters daily. The film will be released this summer and here’s CBS News covering the story.
